About Contemplative Studies at Mizzou

MU Contemplative Practice Center

Contemplative Studies is an emergent cross-disciplinary field that investigates how the application of ancient practices such as mindfulness, yoga and qigong can bring greater balance to contemporary lives. These practices involve seated and walking meditations, time in nature, focused thought, the development of compassion as well as contemplative arts, writing or prayer.

Scholars from fields as diverse as psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, rhetoric and writing, information sciences, law, as well as religious studies, are actively contributing to the research in this field.

The Contemplative Studies Initiative at the University of Missouri has been funded by Mizzou Advantage.
